. Development and implementation of procedures for the knowledge use in distributed engineering decision-making processes considering as example the process of the proposal preparation.
. Development of methods and service-oriented grid-based tools for the support of the knowledge-intensive business process of the proposal preparation.

Workflows in engineering

Main objective of this work package is the consistent unification and extension of the possibilities, which are provided by the use of Web services as well as workflow oriented composition techniques, and the specific demands, which are made by engineering applications to the processes for the development, integration, execution and monitoring of the solutions.

Distributed simulation-based product and process optimization

The goal of this work package is the development of distributed methods and algorithms for the solution of typical engineering optimization problems of the product design and the production process planning. These are to be implemented in terms of virtual prototyping and collaborative engineering for selected manufacturing processes and application scenarios under the use of Web services as well as workflow oriented composition techniques, which are developed within the scope of the group project.
