BOOA completes 3.5 years of operation

The Ocean and Atmosphere Observation Base (BOOA) in southern Brazil completed its 3.5 years of operation. The laboratory managed by the HPCWE partner Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) is located on a fishing platform and around 250 m from the beach, giving support to a LIDAR that continuously profiles winds between 0 and 200 m height.

In June 2020, the LIDAR received its periodic maintenance, with replacement of its water tank and small repairs to its windshield washers and pumps. The LIDAR time series is crucial for the model downscaling planned for the Santa Catarina shelf and will be used to tune the mesoscale simulations in HPCWE.
