Details

Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is a Spanish university that carries out academic and research activities since 1968. It has 30.000 undergraduate students, 4.600 graduate students, 2.700 PhD students (more than 350 PhD dissertations per year), 3.400 teaching and research staff and 2.000 technical and administrative staff.

UAB is a pioneering institution in terms of fostering research and has established firm links with research centres abroad, especially with those of the European Community. UAB has taken part in 85 contracts in FP6, and 50 contracts in FP7 so far.

The Computer Architecture and Operating Systems (CAOS) Department (UAB/CAOS group)  has been involved, from 1980, in several European projects developing its research in areas related to high performance computing. Some of the research topics covered by UAB-CAOS are the following:
* Performance prediction of parallel applications. From multi-core to multi-cluster
* Fault Tolerance for Message Passing Systems
* Application based HPC System Architecture evaluation and dimensioning
* Individual (Agent) Oriented Behavioural modelling and simulation

The Laboratory for Hardware-Software Prototypes & Solutions of the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona, (UAB/CEPHIS group) works on the research and development of new software and hardware codesign methodologies, based on the use of embedded platforms and virtual components to increment the productivity of the custom-designed application specific electronic systems. The system prototypes and solutions are developed by using most modern techniques, like the use of high level design languages and new codesign methods and tools for embedded platforms. This allows achieving a great deal of flexibility and integration capacity using new devices facing heterogeneous MPSoC application environments.
