Fraunhofer SCAI

Details

The Fraunhofer institute for algorithms and scientific computing SCAI conducts development and research in the fields of numeric simulation, optimization, and bio-informatics. Projects connect inter-disciplinary methods from applied mathematics (especially numerical mathematics), computer science, and software technology with natural and engineering sciences. Traditionally, the focus is in the simulation of scientific-technical and industrial applications. Customers span industrial key sectors such as automotive, ship-building, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, textile, pharmaceutical, and chemical industry.

For Fraunhofer SCAI High Performance Computing is a strategic field of research and development. The institute offers core competences based on algorithmic and tools development for the efficient and high performing use of parallel systems. Software solutions developed by SCAI, especially for numeric applications, require and already make use of HPC-systems. The demand from SCAI’s customers in the direction of using novel and developing trends towards hardware and processor architectures is steadily increasing.

The challenges of the transition from traditional single core processors towards modern multicore and manycore architectures is to a great extend also to be found on the algorithmic side. Especially in this area, SCAI is able to make valuable contributions to the H4H consortium.
